Homemade ENERGY Goo Recipe

Tori Sowul is a force of energy! She is a passionate outdoors woman who spends a great deal of time ripping along Utah’s mountain bike trails. In addition to being a ski and bike enthusiast, Tori is also co-founder of spreadstoke.com!

As you can imagine, Tori is a busy woman with a hectic schedule, which is exactly why she shared a recipe for her homemade energy goo. She often needs a boost of energy when she’s out on the trail, and this recipe has just that. There are both simple and complex carbs for quick and sustained energy, along with a vitamins to support tired muscles. And, the best part about Tori’s Goo is that it can be made at home using common, inexpensive ingredients.

Here’s how to make Tori’s Goo (makes 15 servings):

Ingredients:

3 tbsp Honey
3/4 tsp Black Molasses
1 tbsp Peanut Butter
1 cup Cooked Quinoa
1 pinch Salt
1/2 tsp Ground Coffee

Instructions:

Combine ingredients. Mix everything together.
Put 2 tbsp. goo into individual serving plastic bags. *Make sure you use a reliable container to hold the goo, otherwise you will have a big sticky mess to deal with.
Consume goo on the trail for simple backcountry energy. Store goo in refrigerator when waiting to be used, to ensure food safety

Yeti – Trans NZ Enduro

Last week, I had the privilege of being involved with the media team for the first Yeti Trans NZ Enduro. It was a 5 day multi-stage, multi-location Enduro race across the South Island of New Zealand.

It started up in the Craigieburn Range, traveled to Mt. Hutt, Coronet Peak, Alexandra, and finished off near the Skyline bike park in Queenstown. Below is a video re-cap of each day that I put together. Day 1 has no riding in it, but shows the amazing atmosphere of the group of 100+ riders, and 30+ volunteers that were involved in the race. Ladies Unite! Bike Mechanic Scholarship Opportunity

The other day I had the pleasure of meeting Stephanie Nitsch, an avid big mountain snowboarder and founder of Palace Snowboards, an all-female split board company. The two of us met for coffee, bounced ideas off one another about female presence in the action-sport industry and then cheerfully exchanged numbers to grow one another’s female wolf packs.

Like a lot of ladies I meet, the two of us shared a similar story… we bike, ski, ride, and even drink whisky with A LOT of dudes. In a small ski town, with a guy to girl ratio of 7:1… it’s pretty easy to do. However, it’s no excuse to not take advantage of all the ripping ladies out there! The presence of women in action-sports is changing, there is more support, encouragement, and leadership. When I ride with a group of all girls, I’m feel more empowered then ever!

It’s not about being the ‘only girl’, it’s about being a part of a community of strong, female riders who all push one another to go bigger and to even be more knowledgeable. Yes, knowing how to ski and ride a bike is great. Knowing how to fix and tune your skis and bike is mega-terrific great! I recently came across a Women’s Bike Mechanic Scholarship. It’s purpose is to “to grow the number of talented women working in the bike industry and to grow female ridership’. Check it out, and if you think it’s for you, your girlfriend or best friend… pass it along!
